Jehovahs Witness: Do Jews understand the events on Mt Sinai and the 10 Commandments to indicate a wedding?

The Jews would understand the cultural significance of the OT better than anyone, true? So If Israel understood the 10 Commandments to be part of a wedding contract (Ketubah), and God was the husband, then what is the significance of Jesus coming for his bride in the NT? Remember, according to Romans the Gentiles are grafted into Israel. This is the same Israel currently in denial until the number of Gentiles is fulfilled (Romans 11).

Update:

Update: Since some didn't look at Romans 11--I'll post it.

25 I do not want you to be ignorant of this mystery, brothers and sisters, so that you may not be conceited: Israel has experienced a hardening in part until the full number of the Gentiles has come in, 26 and in this way[a] all Israel will be saved.

In short Paul is claiming this falling away allows the "gentiles to come in". That is different than "replace" which some are claiming.

Update 2:

Revelation and Daniel specifically related to Jews, Jerusalem, the fourth and eighth beast that are connected, and the temple being desecrated again before Jesus comes back to fight in the Valley of Jehoshaphat in Israel as referenced in Joel 3? Are Daniel, John, and Joel considered false prophets since these events apparently won't happen or are JWs moving to Jerusalem to build a temple to make this come to pass before the invading armies approach?

Contrary to what the JWs believe, Israel is only temporarily cut off from God, because they were behind the death of Jesus. Of course, God knew all this ahead of time. They haven't lost their promises and they will be restored. God still has an amazing plan of salvation for them. Jesus will be re-identified to the Jews as the promised Messiah and He will accepted as Savior.

I ask, then, has God rejected his people? By no means! For I myself am an Israelite, a descendant of Abraham, a member of the tribe of Benjamin. God has not rejected his people whom he foreknew. Rom. 11:1, 2a

A wonderful section of Romans 11.

And even they, if they do not continue in their unbelief, will be grafted in, for God has the power to graft them in AGAIN. For if you were cut from what is by nature a wild olive tree, and grafted, contrary to nature, into a cultivated olive tree, how much more will these, the natural branches, be grafted BACK INTO their own olive tree. Rom. 11:23, 24.

Israel's Salvation - It all works together perfectly so Gentiles could be grafted in.

Lest you be wise in your own sight, I do not want you to be unaware of this mystery, brothers: a partial hardening has come upon Israel, until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in. And in this way all Israel will be saved, as it is written, “The Deliverer will come from Zion, he will banish ungodliness from Jacob” and this will be my covenant with them when I take away their sins.” As regards the gospel, they are enemies for your sake. But as regards election, they are beloved for the sake of their forefathers. For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable. For just as you were at one time disobedient to God but now have received mercy because of their disobedience, so they too have now been disobedient in order that by the mercy shown to you they also may now receive mercy. For God has consigned all to disobedience, that he may have mercy on all. Rom. 11:25-32

    Restoration of Israel

    Hosea 14

Other amazing prophecies about the restoration of Israel

    Ezekiel...chapter 39 is great.

“Therefore thus says the Lord God: Now I will restore the fortunes of Jacob and have mercy on the whole house of Israel, and I will be jealous for my holy name. They shall forget their shame and all the treachery they have practiced against me, when they dwell securely in their land with none to make them afraid, when I have brought them back from the peoples and gathered them from their enemies' lands, and through them have vindicated my holiness in the sight of many nations. Then they shall know that I am the Lord their God, because I sent them into exile among the nations and then assembled them into their own land. I will leave none of them remaining among the nations anymore. And I will not hide my face anymore from them, when I pour out my Spirit upon the house of Israel, declares the Lord God.” Eze. 39:25-29

That one is amazing because it has already started. God has already started re-gathering the Jews to Israel. We're watching prophecy fulfillment happening right now.

Jews AND Gentiles will be united as one flock, under one Shepherd - Jesus. John 10:16

    A warning...

“‘I know your tribulation and your poverty (but you are rich) and the slander of those who say that they are Jews and are not, but are a synagogue of Satan. Behold, I will make those of the synagogue of Satan who say that they are Jews and are not, but lie—behold, I will make them come and bow down before your feet, and they will learn that I have loved you. Rev. 2:9, 3:9

Sunshine, you can't read the original bible (OT) very well. God never cancelled the contract with the Jews. You Christians did, except that you can't cancel something you were never a part of in the first place. You can't cancel your neighbors marriage contract because it has nothing to do with you.

God is all knowing and knew from the start that the Jews would stray. Are you really trying to claim that God is not all knowing and had no idea that the Jews would stray from his law during various times? Do you really want to go there and insult God like that and make him look like some shmuck who got jilted?

Read Deuteronomy Chapter 30. Moses predicted at the time the law was given that the Jews would one day be scattered around the world. Therefore God knew from the start that it would be the case. But then keep reading and you will see the promise God made that if the Jews return to the law, he will redeem them. Even if they are scattered to the furtherest places on the earth.

God doesn't lie, nor does he make contracts with people without knowing how the whole thing will turn out in the end.

Replacement theology was the root cause of much anti-semitism throughout the ages. Two thoughts have gone hand in glove like two thieves working together...

    1) God has finished with the Jews -it's our turn

    2) The Jews killed the Messiah so we should kill the Jews.

Both thoughts are rooted in man's desire rather than biblical text. Aside from Ga 6:16 in fact there is no suggestion that God has finished with the Jews and even that verse doesn't say it! There is plenty of argument that it doesn't mean the Church has replaced Israel in any way (100's of bible verses and then all the promises of the OT). Plus it's always dangerous to adopt firm doctrine on the strength of one bible passage (any doctrine!)

Of course it suits many to believe such and why would should they let scripture interfere with their beliefs?

"In this way" all Israel will be saved. What way are fleshly jews saved? by believing in Jesus and either remaining on the tree or after they gain the truth about Jesus they are returned to the tree.

Any fleshly jew who does not accept Jesus in the way, will not be saved, anymore than a gentile who rejects Christ or never believes in Christ.

John 3:16, salvation only comes to those who believe, both Jew and Gentile. Non believers either Jew or Gentile will perish.

Spiritual Israel is made up of both Jew and Gentile. A remnant of Jews and the full number of Gentiles.

It is you that need to read Romans 11 better to understand what Paul is telling us. A saved Jew is one who is circumcised in the heart and not in the flesh. Rom 1.

As a Jew, reading this question and the answers....I am sitting here in stunned silence. Wow, just wow.

We entered a covenant, an eternal covenant (a contract if you will) with G-d and yes, we understand it totally. Jesus is of no consequence to Judaism and "a wedding"? Umm...wow

You assume 'Israel' is those descending from Abraham.

That was the case until 70 A.D.

    No more.

That is why Galations 6:16 speaks of the 'Israel of God'.

What God considers Israel, is not the same as what man considers Israel.

You're right, the Jews did enter into a covenant arrangement and Jehovah God (YHWH) became their "husbandly owner". However, just as with a literal marriage, all deals are off if one of the partners comits ADULTERY the Jewish people broke their covenant with their owner by committing spiritual adultery ie failing to keep his laws and commandements and worshipping other gods and eventually killing their own Messiah. God already knew they were a rebellious nation, but this would not stop him following through on his promise to Abraham. Their CONTINUED part in this purpose would however depend on how they received the promised Messiah.

ps: You can read God's feeling, comparing Himself to a "jilted" husband in Ezekiel Chapter 23

    https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Ezeki...

    TRIAL "SEPARATIONS"

Jehovah forgave the Jews for their breaking their part of the "marriage" arrangement again and again; disciplining them in the hope that they change. We can read in DEUTERONOMY 30 how Jehovah predicted that they would be disobedient, that he would scatter them around the world but given them another chance by gathering them back again. (This happened when Jerusalem was destroyed in the 6th Century BCE and the Jews were sent into exile in Babylon only to be released 70 years later)

    DIVORCE

    >> Sadly when the "Seed" or Messiah arrived the nation proved true to their nature and were unfaithful and GOD (the husband) divorced the nation (the "wife") and cancelled the contract but this would not be an end to the Abrahamic covenant or of the hope for a "new covenant" already predicted by God through Jeremiah (see Jer 31:31)..

Finally when they rejected their own Messiah, Jehovah "DIVORCED" them and the Jews lost any special relationship they had with God due to their being decendants of Abraham.

A NEW ARRANGEMENT: The Messiah **HIS** bride.

Jehovah God had promised a "seed" or a decendent of Abraham that would be used to "blesss all nations of the earth" that individual would indeed be born from the Jewish nation. That proved to be the promised Jewish Messiah Jesus. Jesus would usher in a new era, with a "New Covenant" (see Jeremiah 31: 31). This new marriage or new arrangement would open the way for a new heavenly Governement that would eventually rid the earth of all suffering and pain (see Mat 5: 5). Thus Jesus (the son of the original "marriage") had his own "bride" (members of this new government) and with beautiful simplicity the Abrahamic covernent is fulfilled.

For a in depth discussion of how the gentiles fit in to the above arrangement (Romans 11) please see the article below.
