I went on to the British Council site for Malaysia and scrolled down to the bottom of the main page and clicked on careers to go to the job section of the site
(You can also get there by going directly to the following link):
http://www.britishcouncil.my/about/jobs
These are two currently open positions on the website:
Teacher of English (Hourly Paid)
Kuala Lumpur | Apply by Saturday, 31 January 2015
Professional Development Unit Trainer, Part-time
Wisma Selangor Dredging, Kuala Lumpur | Apply by Wednesday, 31 December 2014
I looked at the first job (if you click and go to the application pack section for the English teacher job, there is a PDF called "Job Description Teacher of English hourly paid")
I clicked on that PDF and went to the Qualifications section and it listed the following:
Qualifications
-Cambridge CELTA/Trinity cert TESOL
- High proficiency in English i.e.
full mastery
of English across all 4 skills equivalent to
user (CEFR C2) IELTS Band 8/9 in each
of 4 sections of the academic module
-Undergraduate degree
I don't know if there is a difference between "Trinity cert TESOL" and TESOL degree, but I'm guessing there are similarities between the two.
You can look at different jobs on the site and see what kind of qualifications and experience they look for.
You can also sign up and go on LinkedIn (it's a job networking website) to see if any one you know is working at the British Council. There is a company page for both British Council (8,963 employees on LinkedIn) and British Council Malaysia (81 employees on LinkedIn).
You could possibly, strategically introduce yourself to someone that already works at the company for an informational interview or send them a message expressing your interest in the company and if they would have time to talk to you about their position at the British Council and their experience working there.
Here is a link to an article that discusses how to connect with an employer on LinkedIn:
