I got a bad haircut recently. I need some advice about my next step?

I made an appointment with the same stylist for a couple of weeks from now, but I really don't trust the guy. I feel like I could probably do a better cut myself... but I also want my money's worth out of the salon. Should I try to cut it at home with tried-and-true methods, or risk the same guy making the same mistakes twice??
