Help a senior citizen out?

I've been reading that certain retailers and the like use cookies to see how many times a person visits a site. They then adjust pricing knowing that you have shown interest in a certain item. Is this true? If so, how do I get rid of those nasty little baked items? I use a Macbook Air, so what is the process? Thanks.

I delete cookies once a month. I have no clue how to do it on a Mac product.
