Would it be wise to sample a comic book, video game and film/tv character to come up with your own ideas or just be original?

It's hard to make up an original these days.

    I think it would be wise to get an idea of what sorts of ideas are being used in comic books, video games, etc. because while popular comics and games are original in their own way, they all use similar ideas, e.g. bad guy vs good guy, world peace, finding your individuality, etc.

    Making up your own ideas is also a good idea, but it has to be simple enough for people to understand.
