phone without a plan?

so i want to buy an unlocked moto x to use as an ipod-like device that runs android. instead of buying a plan/contract with the phone, can i just use it on wifi only? i don't care if there is a 'no sim card' warning so long as i can dismiss it. all i want to do with it is text, play some games, and use the google play store. would that work?

Yes. You could purchase a prepaid Moto X and use it for a media player. I would purchase a CDMA phone. If you purchase a prepaid model, even if you purchase a GSM model, the sim card will come with the phone.
