Most .22LR revolvers should be able to safely shoot .22 Shorts... But there's no point. Unless you have a stockpile of several hundred rounds of .22 Short, I wouldn't worry about them. They're more expensive and far more rare than .22LR.

I can't imagine why anyone would want to shoot .22 Shorts. They are more expensive than .22 LR. If you insist, you are probably stuck with a revolver instead of a semi-auto.

When you say 'pistol' - most people 'assume' you mean a semi-auto pistol. Not a revolver.
Nobody makes a pistol that fires both 22 long rifle and 22 short without having to change the magazine and barrel. Don't take my word for it - go to Barnes and Noble and grab a copy of the 'Shooter's Bible' - you will find about 40 pages of pistols, 8 to a page, of every pistol available to the general public of the USA.
Today in the USA - nearly all semi-auto pistols that fire 22 short a especially designed for training and US Olympic team. They are not cheap dates - prices start around $1400 and go up up and up.
That said - some revolvers - they might do both. But not all. If they do - you will see the words "22 short, 22 long and 22 long rifle' stamped on the barrel - or on the cylinder.
Generally, you can stuff a 22 short in any semi-auto firearm that handles 22 long rifle - it just will not have the power to cycle the action and can frequently jam.

Any 22lr revolver can shot 22 long and 22 short as well. I have a Heritage Rough Rider, nice 6 shooter for the cost. A Taurus 94 will shoot all 3 rounds as well.
I just picked up 300rd of 22 short at Gander Mtn a couple of weeks ago. 22 short is great little round, way under appreciated- imho. Have dropped a number of squirrels & stray cats with it.

shorts have a place... but they are hard to find and expensive.
Revolvers ... and shoot enough shorts you will be scrubbing a carbon ring out of your cylinder's charge holes

The only Shorts I have on hand....are decades old. They have long faded into rarity. I will now use the CCI minimags in CB Long, if I want a quiet and effective, close range round.
Source(s): I have an old, tube mag 22 that i can use all 3 types in...and that's how some get used up.
