What is a good cruise to go on?

I'm 22. I want to surprise my mom with a surprise cruise. But i don't know how to go about looking for one? Which ones are good and fun and not ridiculously expensive? I live in Daytona Beach Florida. Whichever cruise you suggest, can you give a little bit of details about it please and thanks :)

Well the first thing you need to do is figure out what budget you want to spend. After that, you can then look at cruises that would be in that price range.

As a guide, for the cheapest cruises such as on Carnival those start at about $100/per person/per day. Other mid-range cruise lines will start at about $125/per person/ per day. You will need to figure a minimum of about 3But keep in mind that all cruises are based on "Double-Occupancy", that is 2 people per cabin. So you need to double the price you see listed.

So if your budget is only a few hundred dollars, most likely you won't be able to afford any of the cruises.

As for which cruise line. Personally I would select Royal Caribbean, it is a very good mid-range cruise and have a lot of activities going on. Others suggest Carnival, and they are an okay cruise line but since they are also basically the "bargain basement" of cruise lines you do get what you pay for. Where also on the shorter cruises (3-4 days) you actually get a lot of people who tend to turn it into a "Booze Cruise" where they are happy to start drinking when they get on board and don't stop until they leave. So this is a much bigger party atmosphere than your mom may want.

I would suggest if you have never booked a cruise that you talk to a physical travel agent. They can help you select a cruise and also let you know things you may not have thought about. Personally I like AAA and if you are a member you may want to at least give them a try.

It depends on what you are looking for. As you are already in FL, you have a lot of options with regard to last minute cruises, which can save you a bundle. Carnival is fun, but not my thing. I did a RCL cruise last month, and wasn't that impressed. We prefer Celebrity. It doesn't have water slides, skating rinks or any of that, but it has fantastic food, amazing service, and the people are very cool. You hit a more international group on Celebrity.

Go on vacationstogo.com, click the 90 day ticker, and you can find last minute cruises (90 days is considered last minute). Again, since you can drive to several ports, you will be in a better position to take advantage of last minute pricing.

Source(s): You might want to check crucon.com, which is a travel agency. I always booked my own, but recently started using a travel agent as he gets me better prices and perks. I've heard people speak highly of crucon.

While all these answers offer suggestions it still leaves you with the job of spending the time and doing the research cruise line by cruise line and cruise by cruise. The best and most LOGICAL suggestion for you is to contact a local professional travel agent who will ask you all of the questions necessary for them to recommend 2 or 3 of the best cruises that fit the dates you can travel and the budget you have in mind. Don't procrastinate, DO IT!

Ashley has a good recommendation but I would use cruisesonly.com (and its many sister sites) only as a reference and book directly thru Carnival. You could even talk to a Carnival PVP (Personal Vacation Planner) to help you with questions and details/specifics - the prices are pretty much the same. If you have any issues, you deal directly with the cruise line otherwise you will have to go thru Cruisesonly who will act on your behalf and that can be a pain.

Living in Daytona, you have many options of where to cruise from - in addition to the three listed, Carnival cruises out of Jacksonville and Tampa

There are some short Carnival cruises out of Miami that are very cheap if you book in the off season or if its close to sailing time and they have cabins to fill.

Carnival is a good one for families (probably not what you want) but Royal Carribean is relaxing and more sophisticated and the food is GREAT. I've been on both multiple times and really it depends.

carnival is really fun and not expensive at all! (at least its the least expensive option) you can go out of ft lauderdale, miami, port canaveral

go to cruisesonly.com and pick where you want to go (most likely caribbean) then select the month and it'll pull up all the options for you-easiest and best website

all the options will have the cruise line, what boat it is, the dates it sails, and all the ports and if you like it click on it and it'll have the price for the specific date and an itinerary
