Biblical question John Ch 4 v 21 Will Jesus ever reign in Jerusalem?

Watching a recent Jimmy Swaggart TV programme now broadcasting in Britain the teaching that Jesus Christ when he returns will physically rule in Jerusalem with converted Jews. The converted Christians seemingly are raptured to heaven on his arrival. This is a new one on me and I would welcome views and answers from serious Bible students having read John Ch 4 v 21..

I don't like Jimmy Swaggart as a preacher because he is so damn legalistic, and often wrong about whatever he says whenever I tuned in.

As far as I know, John 4:21 is talking about a phenomenon brought on by God through the new covenant of Christ. He is saying that it isn't where you worship that matters.

This is what matters in this new, spiritual covenant that Jesus started when it was time for him t do it:

    John 4

23 "Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. 24 God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.”

So, John 4 tells me anywhere. I can worship anywhere. In other places it tells me anytime. It's not about the ritual of it, the Law of it. Instead of strict unbending Law which cannot save imperfect people, the covenant is one where imperfect are imputed with the righteousness of Christ.

As for what will happen to Christians converted, Jews, there is more to it than that. Though I have to say he is right about some Jews and some non-Jewish Christians being in the positions Swaggart named, it doesn't account for all of them. Israel as a nation will believe, but not yet. Not until Christ returns, as is forwarded to us by Zechariah. Especially chapters 12 and 14.

If you accurately portray what Swaggart said, then I have all sorts of problems with his choice of words. It looks like he made it sound like the converted Christians are all up in Heaven for the Second Coming, and the Millennium. I would not agree with that statement if that is what he meant.

edit: I don't see how John 4:21 has anything to do with the Millennium.

    the passage

Jhn 4:21 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father.

This KJV is hard to understand for most so try the NLT

Jhn 4:21 Jesus replied, "Believe me, dear woman, the time is coming when it will no longer matter whether you worship the Father on this mountain or in Jerusalem.

I'm sad to say that Swaggart does not always teach scriptural truths. And this is the case here. Nowhere in scripture is the notion ever presented that Jesus will physically return to earth and rule over a physical Jerusalem.

In John 4:21, Jesus is explaining that people everywhere would soon worship God anywhere and everywhere - not just on the mount of sacrifice or in Jerusalem.

Neither is the modern teaching of the rapture biblical in the least. It was offered up by men like Swaggart who do not comprehend the word of God. I wish that I knew you. There is so much that you could learn - and need to learn.

May I recommend a few TV, radio, and internet preachers that will be worth your time to watch and listen to ... Dr. Charles Stanley, Dr. David Jeremiah , Chip Ingram, Charles Swindoll, Charles Ryrie, and John MacArthur. Here is my church's website too: http://www.colmarmanorbible.org/ If you want truth, Dr. Kenneth Burge, Sr., my pastor will give it to you. He can be watched on YouTube too. Here is a makeshift diagram of the events to still occur in God's Timeline

Church Christ The Tribulation Christ Rules/ The Great Eternity

For 2,000 The Rapture Lasts 7 years Reigns for White Throne

+ years of believers 1,000 years Judgment

We've been living in the Age of Grace/Church Age since Jesus was crucified and resurrected (Acts 2 the Church began).

He will return for His Church (all true believers) in the clouds before the time of the Tribulation (1 Cor. 15:51-52; 1 Thess. 4:15, 17; 1 Thess. 4:13,-14, 16; 1 Cor. 15:51-53; 1 Thess. 4:16-17).

Next comes the Tribulation that will last for 7 years. In the middle of the Tribulation (3 1/2 years) the Anti-Christ will break his covenant and that's when the Great Tribulation begins (Rev. 6-16). There will be three waves of judgment: seals (Rev. 6; 8:1-5)), trumpets (Rev. 8:6-9:21; 11:15-19), and bowl (Rev. 15) each having 7 specific judgments within each one that get more disastrous for the "earth dwellers-those who refuse to acknowledge God."

After the Tribulation, Jesus fulfills God promise of Israel's Kingdom and rules over Israel and we who are raptured will reign with Him (Rev. 20:4-6). Satan and his fallen angels will be bound (Rev. 20:1-3) during this time unable to entice anyone to sin against God.

I couldn't fit this in the diagram but after the 1,000 years (millennial Kingdom) Satan will be released to make a final revolt against God (Rev. 20:7-9) that will be subdued rather quickly by Jesus and His saints.

Then the Great White Throne Judgment occurs (Rev. 20:11-15) Satan and his fallen angels will be cast into the lake of fire being tormented (Rev. 20:10) throughout eternity as well as those judged at this time.

God creates a new heaven and earth (Rev. 21) (couldn't fit this in either).

    Eternity speaks for itself.

I sincerely pray you will search out for yourself what I have said here to gain a better understanding. I would never lead you astray like some others have answering your question. I pray for your your enlightenment my brother.

Edit: I didn't address John 4:21 above. This proves how taking passages out of context can cause confusion and arguments.

Jesus is telling the woman at the well that there is a "time coming" (cf. v. 23) referred to the coming death of Jesus which would inaugurate a new phase of worship in God's economy. In the Church Age/Age of Grace, because of the work of the Spirit, worship is no longer centered in temples like those on Mount Gerizim and Mount Zion.

Hope this clears things up for you.

Christianity will come to an end of Jesus' reign here on earth the thousand year reign which means "age", the end of the Church Militant. Protestants have no clue when it comes to interpreting St. John's Book of Revelation. Jesus was already triumphant when He risen on the third day in which He defeated death and has the authority over Sheol (keys of Sheol) and He will reign until all of His enemies will be placed under His feet. His Resurrection marks the day of the Devil and many of the other fallen angels imprisonment (not all of them were imprisoned). And He reigns here on earth through the seek of His Church Militant in which the Apostles were given thrones of His authority to bind and let loose under the keys of St. Peter.

After the thousand year reign meaning "age" there will no longer be a Church Militant here on earth, the end of Christianity. That is when the Devil and these other fallen angels will be released upon the earth and deceive many people. The holy people are the Jews in which they will be surrounded by Gog and Magog in the city of Jerusalem. Of course the fire that will rain down from Heaven will most likely be a meteor or comet colliding with the earth in which everyone on earth will die the holy people, Gog, and Magog. As it states in Scripture in order to be risen you first have to die and on the last day both the righteous and unrighteous will be risen and have resurrected bodies and stand before the white throne in which the nations will be judged by Jesus (God) in relation to their deeds.

The Devil and the other fallen angels and the resurrected unrighteous man will be tossed into Gehenna were they will remain forever. The world as we had known it will perish with them (be forgotten about).

The universe and world being rid of the sinners will be rid of sin and therefore the effects of sin such as death. In which the universe and world will be like it was before there was sin an undying creation. Jesus (God) and the righteous will inherit the world it will reflect Heaven (New Jerusalem).

The sheep and the goats are in relation to the righteous (firstfruits) and the unrighteous. Just as the living and the dead are in relation to the righteous (firstfruits) and the unrighteous.

Protestants really do not understand Scripture.

Jesus may indeed rule from Jerusalem but there will be no Jews or Christians, there will just be humanity and they will all be on this Earth. "heaven" is where Jesus will be and he will be here.
