Does epoxy melt hard plastic during the curing process?

I have one of those frosty pilsner glasses with the gel inside to keep your drink cool for longer periods of time, and when I pulled it out of the freezer, I noticed a massive crack in the side of it and some of the gel has leaked out. And since I'm a person who doesn't like to just throw something away, I thought I'd try and fix it first.

Epoxy gets hot when it cures, particularly if you have a big pot of it. I think it dissolves polystyrene (styrofoam) but that's just the chemicals not to do with curing.

However, my guess is that this won't work too well. You might do better with superglue, or some solvent type glue specifically for that type of plastic. Or electrical tape wound around several times...

At the moment, petroleum is the key ingredient for plastic production. sugar is also being used do to lower cost.
