How do you preserve paper mache paste?

I'm makings paper mâché piñata and while its drying, the paste starts to thicken and harden. How do I preserve it for a few hours (maybe even a full day) while the piñata is drying? Should I put it in the refrigerator, leave it out, etc. btw I used the Un-cooked (flour & water) paste

You DON'T preserve paper mache paste. You make SMALLER amounts as needed.

I would cover it with plastic wrap (The bowl with the solution) It separates into water and flower, the flower settling on the bottom. When you want to use it again, just stir it and it is good to go.
