Visited a new dentist today who takes my insurance. He does not do pay as you go. Instead wants to start a complete program. Question......?

My insurance covers the first 1200. This dentist only does complete dental work programs whereby a monthly charge is charged to me ( $ 160 for 2 years) fro all the work that needs to be done. I need 2 extractions, bridge work, and a special cleaning for gum infection that has just begun in his estimation due to excess space where bacteria has entered. My prior dentist did pay as I go, instead this is a comprehensive plan to get things done quickly, not waiting for shifting of teeth and worsening infection. What do you think of this situation ?

Update:

went to another dentist and have pay as I go; he reattached gold crown for 19 dollar co pay, and we are going from there.

Update 2:

Alex was right on about them pushing antibiotic treatment so he gets the BA, thx to valleycat also

This sounds like the sort of thing a chain dental group does. They also love to do a lot of gum treatments including antibiotic placement like Arestin. Get a 2nd opinion and stay away from chains. They maybe convenient but the quality of care is not great.

I would go to another dentist for another opinion before signing on to this, and I would check with my dental insurance to see what they say about that payment plan. Is the $160 for 24 months intended to cover the charges beyond the first 1200? You would also want to be sure of how the insurance works, as those plans normally cover different types of work in different ways; you would want to be sure the dentist bills the insurance for the work that the insurance coverage is best for.

Also, usually when you have insurance, the insurance company tells the doctor or dentist what the allowable charge is, and the patient is only liable for that much.
