I am trying to find out if it is necessary to put an electrical outlet in a commercial bathroom (by code)???? I am in Edmonton, AB, Canada.?

There is a toilet and a sink in this bathroom and I need to know if it is required by code to have a plug too.

  • As an electrical engineer and knowing how water anf electricity love to get at eacj other even when there is a human in the way, I would be very surprised if it was a requirement, I would only ever go as far as a razor socket complete with isolating transforner

Not in an existing commercial bathroom. Unless you remodel and the cost exceeds a pre determined amount or percentage of the property value. Granted Edmonton may have something else to say about it.

bcnu IS correct about your local building department answering this question.

What they don't do is give free advice or engineering help. They won't tell you how to do it, only if you need to do it.

As a code inspector myself, I would recommend you contact the local inspector for their guidance. At the very least they can tell you what code has been enacted locally, and if there are any amendments of which you should be aware, and where you can find a copy of the code.

By law, the municipality is required to have a copy of ALL CODES that it enforces, for examination by constituents and for reference by the code enforcers. Yours would probably be Canadian Electrical Code Part I, or aka, CSA C22.1.
