the written lease is invalid...as smart as I am I will give you an answer straight out of judge judy...at least the first part....it is negligence on your part to not inform landlord you were a minor...so you are responsible for any rent paid while you were 17.years old.....so, had they sued you they could collect after you became 18.....so you can't get any money back for that.....any money paid after you became 18 you were on a month to month lease....but you are not subject to break lease fee....my question is this..did you give 30 days notice to leave......lets say you left in june 2014.....did they rent it for july how about august.....did they keep your deposit....send me an email with details....did they get a judgement against you in court...did you show up in court.....if its a court thing it might be too late to appeal....I think you can get this off your credit , fix your score and maybe got some money coming to you.....lets say I am judgementel and think you're a ******** ********....jo and mimi think so....so do I...doesn't chang what the law is.....jo mimi and pascaul are idiots.....

You shouldn't have been able to sign at 17 in the first place.
The issue now is not how old you were when you signed - but how old you were when you broke the lease.
If you were 18 when you broke the lease - then yes, it's absolutely legal.
Trying to get out of it using the "I was only 17" business will not get you out of it.

then broke the lease early & never paid the amount to break it.
now its on my credit (since im now 18) for a 2000 debt, ruining my credit to a 489!
:(
but is that even legal since i signed when i was only 17?

Then it's not enforceable. That said, as soon as you turned 18 and kept paying, you established a month to month tenancy and still owe money.

lol. The moral of the story is to be honest and meet your obligations, no matter your age.
