want an ipod that runs android?

would a used (an used???) Moto x work? or any unlocked android phone for that matter. i don't want a galaxy player, or a walkman or whatever, i have already looked at those. honestly, i am just wondering if you can use a phone without a data plan. (i don't want to spend extra money on a prepaid phone)

Don't get MotoX - it has no MicroSD card slot!! You would be limited to built-in storage.

It should work but try to get a phone with Android 4.4.whatever (KitKat) and a MicroSD slot, and hopefully 8 Gig of internal storage so you will have maybe 4.5-5 Gb free for some apps.

If you get a phone that complains it doesn't have a SIM even though you aren't trying to call, get a cheap right kind of SIM on Ebay. But if you get a Verizon 2G/3G phone it probably won't need a SIM. Motorola X2 has 8Gb internal and a MicroSD slot but an older version of Android. If you don't really have a need for specific apps that should be OK. But some apps only work on KitKat 4.4 and newer.
