The news I have about that is kinda frustrating. The reason is, while there are a number of prescription sleeping pills available, they all share several downsides. One is that they tend to lose their effectiveness over time, and sometimes that can occur not long after starting. Another problem is that they work on a part of the brain that becomes physically tolerant and eventually reliant on the drug to fall asleep, known as GABA receptors. While doctors do prescribe these drugs for extended periods, they really aren't intended for long term use, because of the reasons I've mentioned. Simply put, a truly effective, safe and practical sleep aid just doesn't exist.
Ambien (zoldipem) is a very popular prescription, in the US at least I believe it is the #1 prescribed sleep tablet. I have a prescription for it, but I try not using it every night. At first it worked wonderfully; I slept well and hand rather pleasant dreams. But as a lot of people discover, its effectiveness seems to fade over time.
There was a time when I sort of laughed at advice of different techniques in falling asleep. But not anymore. There just is no sleep pill that works the way we might wish, and it's not for lack of trying to discover one. Sleep issues are one of the top issues with people, so as much as doctors would like to be able, more temporary solutions are really all that's available for now.
So now, when someone mentions meditation techniques, chamomile tea, and other basic information, I'm left thinking "I wish that worked for me!". They are the ones getting true sleep, I do suspect.
Hope you took notes -- there will be a quiz! ;)

From what you have written it sounds like you need a medical work-up including blood work and xrays. The symptoms you have described are depressive symptoms which sometimes present themselves as pain. Antidepressants take 4 to 6 weeks to reach a therapeutic level. Oxycodone is not a drug you want to take. It is strictly regulated and for pain only. Many pain medications, oxycodone included cause depression. It is very constipating and causes withdrawal if you go off of it abruptly. Be honest with your doctor. Don't try to shine him on to get narcotics. Take a list of your symptoms in to him and discuss them. Maybe he can refer you to another doctor if you don't feel he can help you. You have some serious problems. I hope you get the help you need. Good luck to you.

They will probably give you Melatonin.
Most sleeping problems are probably caused by stress, depression, anxiety, nervousness and worry as well as being too keyed up.
Sleeping pills can give you bad side effects such as headaches and drowsiness during the day so you are better off without them.
To sleep better just relax and switch off, if you can.
If you are having trouble switching off at bedtime some light exercise (for example, push ups or sit ups) at bedtime often helps you to relax, unwind and switch off and that often improves your sleep. Strenuous exercise at bedtime is likely to ruin your sleep.
Common OTC sleep aids include Chamomile tea, 5-HTP, Melatonin and Valerian Root.
Sleep enhancing foods include warm milk, turkey, cherries, oatmeal, bananas, wine and others as in a web search for "sleep enhancing foods".
You can see further tips in a web search for "how to fall asleep and stay asleep".
