What does a therapist do if you're crying really hard in therapy?

Like if the client is a 14 year old girl and the therapist is a women. Do they just sit there or hug and hold you??!

She's usually sympathetic and offers tissues, I have had counselors and therapists of both genders, and I find women to be much nicer.
