Photoshop enhancement for old, browned color newsprint pages?

I am working with scans of old color comic-book pages. I am hoping that there is some kind of filter which can help me to clean up the scans instantly.

Here is what I would like the filter to do: Scan every pixel and assign the lightest to pure white, the darkest to pure black, the yellowest to pure yellow, etc and then reassign colors based on intensity so that the browns go away and are replaced by a richer range of colors which overcomes the rotten old printing, bad paper, and browning from age. Is there such a utility?

In Photoshop, try using a layer set to Divide blending mode, eyedrop a particular shade of aged brown, and paint it onto the layer with a soft brush. If the color cast is even across the page, you can just fill the whole layer. You can use additional layers to filter out other unwanted tones—try using the eyedropper with "All Layers" sampling to ensure you pick up the fully blended result.

You may also find tools such as the Layers panel to be useful for increasing contrast.

Be careful with scans from comic books. A lot of these use halftones—screens of ink dots to allow for smoother colors at a cost to fine detail. The finer the resolution, the more apparent the halftone patterns will be.
