I don't understand the conflation where Dark = Bad. I think the real question you're asking is "How much has the state of the world affected your outlook in a negative way?"

My answer to that has two layers. The rampancy of dogmatic exclusionary thinking and cruelty under the guise of morality had driven me to nihilism. But now that I don't feel that anything is valid as a belief, and that the world is just one giant mess where human nature is the only thing that's real, I am able to choose to act according to the compassionate side of this nature. Not because I believe I have to. Just because I want to.

I would say I have 97% light in my heart... the other 3% is when I watch the news. It saddens me greatly to see what is going on around the world. For the most part though, I hang onto what I see as beautiful in life. Family, friends, nature and most of all.. All the Love in the world.
