Is the city of Boston,MA racist?

You can find racist people anywhere if you look hard enough.

I assure you there are plenty in Atlanta, just as there are anywhere else.

Boston is a group of neighborhoods, and they are all different, and change every so often with waves of new immigrant groups. It's been that way for hundreds of years. The groups can be very protective of their own, which is normal for immigrant groups. It's also normal to find that in existing groups facing the influx of immigrant groups.

Boston also is made up of people from all over the world who have gone there to work and to attend college. It's a big place, so to call all of that racist is just wrong- there are people who are racist, but as a city, it is a rich combination of culture from every part of the world.

At its core, Boston is a very old, historic place. There is a Black History Museum. Parts of the Underground Railroad ran through it, and there were plenty of Abolitionists in Boston. If you saw the movie Glory, Robert Gould Shaw was a son of Boston, and the leader of the 54th Regiment Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry - one of the first black infantry units in the Civil War. In fact, there is a big monument to the unit that faces the State House on Beacon Hill, and is visited by every tour vehicle in town.

Without a lot of the people who lived in and around Boston at the time, your family might well have remained in slavery. Massachusetts has a long history of helping blacks, and that isn't racist at all.

If you can aim to go to college in Boston, try- that is where you will find some of the absolute best schools in the world- which is why everyone goes there from all those other countries!

Very little racism among the under 30 set and students. There are neighborhoods that are not welcoming, but are being slowly gentrified such as Charlestown and South Boston. In general, I've never found racism in the colleges (and I've attended a few) and I think that the key is to choose your neighborhood with advice from a realtor or a local. Things have changed quite a bit since the 1950's but there are still a few pockets of ethnic resistance to change.

In the city of Boston proper I would say yes. But I wouldn't say that the people are racist so much but just overly proud of their ethnicity, it is still very much a segregated city, but with the influx of Hispanic people most neighborhoods are becoming more gentrified. For instance East Boston used to be very Italian, now it is all Hispanic. I guess the term White Flight could be used since now most ethnic Italian and Irish are moving to the northern suburbs, as well as the African American community seems to be moving to the southern suburbs.

As a native black Atlantan that lived in Boston, I would say it is a extremely racist city. There is racism in Atlanta, but its more subtle. The racism in Boston in up front in your face. Its also a racially segregated city and divided, with Dorchester, Roxbury the only black areas. The whites there are very racist. They will let you know in your face that you as a black person are inferior. There are only a few blacks in power there in government. The rudeness is unjust. Their narrow mindness is ignorant. I couldn't wait to leave that crap town that wants to be a REAL city like NYC!

No. Boston is a city, basically an area of land known as Boston. It's people in any city or town who are racists, not the city itself.

Anywhere you go where there are people, there's a chance of racism. Even in Africa there are blacks who are racists against other blacks. Lighter blacks against darker blacks.

My black friend say it's more racist in Boston. The thing about Boston is that most of the blacks live in the ghetto...so that's how they are treated.

I just moved to the suburbs of Boston from the South. I wouldn't exactly say the people are racist, but they're very very proud of their race. So they are somewhat prejudiced.
