What's the difference between "Paste" and "Paste As Plain Text"?

If you copy a chunk of text, do you want the text presented the same or do you want it unformatted.
If you were typing in a certain font and size, by pasting as plain text, you'll keep to your set font; but if you paste regularly you'll copy the font and size too.
