How about going to the library and consulting a dictionary of contemporary slang, or looking for it online?

Cheers does not always mean Thank You - in fact I would NEVER say it instead of Thank You. People often say it to one another as a toast, when having a drink - you raise your glass, and say " cheers!" . People sometimes say it instead of " Bye". when leaving.

English people say "lou" or "toliet"... We just say restroom(public bathrooms e.i shopping mall, restaurants, ect.) or bathroom (home bathroom)

They also say "trolley" instead of "shopping cart"

"boot" instead of "trunk" (of a car)

These are just a few, hope I helped.
