Why do some people think a "Gay Agenda" actually exists?

Homophobic people use the "gay agenda" to scare other homophobic people into thinking that gay people are trying to take over the world and turn everyone gay or some nonsense like that.

"Quit shoving your gay agenda down our throats!" is something I commonly see people writing/saying, when really all we're asking for is to be treated like equals.

If I wanted to shove anything down a person's throat, it certainly wouldn't be an agenda.

Once upon a time, about 40 years ago a gay guy heard the term 'gay agenda', he thought to himself AHA! what an idea for a satirical article! and proceeded to write one. Right wingers, who always take seriously everything in print, the more spurious the better, took this satirical column to heart and drag it out at a moment's notice to show the bad old gay's plan for world domination. there is no gay agenda

Because groups opposed to marriage equality use it as a scare tactic. It's much easier to convince people to give you money if you convince them that there's some conspiracy trying to corrupt their children.

Its a scare campaign tactic.

I guess we could say homosexuals do have an agenda if you see equality as an agenda.

Perhaps because of the abundant evidence.
