If plants are capable of asexual reproduction, what purposes would sexual reproduction serve?

Asexual reproduction is essentially just cloning the plant, in asexual reproduction every single gene (apart from random mutations) is an exact copy. Sexual reproduction take half the genes from each parent and combines them to produce an offspring. This increases the chances of having offspring with mutations and genes that will greater aid the species survival compared to asexual reproduction.
