Is there any way to see Ayer s Rock / Uluru in a day trip from Melbourne, Perth or Darwin? I assume not based on the distance! Thanks!?

Update:

Thanks guys. Does anyone know of specific details if it was at all possible (I assume I couldn't afford it anyway so it's hypothetical!). Like, which city is best to fly from, what times? Are they tourist flights from Alice Springs, or even direct from one of the cities? Thanks.

You'd only see it from the airport. If you wanted to go there and back in a day you would have to leave on the plane you arrived on. Would you consider a day trip to the Grand Canyon from New York or New Orleans? Similar distances are involved. If you look at an equal area map projection rather than the Mercator projection commonly used in the USA you will see that Australia and the USA are about the same size.
