Complaining at a Restaraunt to get free food?

I once was sitting next to a family and the Dad at meal time was complaining vociferously about the meal. He then asked the waiter to get the manager. He said many things that he did not like about the meal in a very loud voice. Finally, in order to quiet the man down the manager offered him a free meal of his choosing. The man selected the most expensive meal on the menu, had the manager put it in a doggie bag and exited the eatery with his family. I wanted to call this dude out but my wife stopped me.

Just imagine the example he set for his family...what a jerk !

I don't complain to receive free food or any type of compensation. If I complain, it is in a tactful manner and only to make management aware of issues if needed.

I do. Its a awesome to do, You should always complain to get a free meal but never at the same place. I like to just get up and run to the manager and complian as this saves any unnecessary dialect as you have other things to do and are way too busy to be conversing with blue collared workers such as the acne ridden college preps working in such places.

The only time you should complain is when you have a legitimate reason to do so. Never just for free food

I've tasted some pretty nasty food before, but I've NEVER complained. Unless the food has a bug, big hair, etc, just eat it and keep quiet.

I don't, I'd feel really rude and I don't want to run companies out of business.
