Is my dog getting old?

My dog has been drinking excessive amounts of water lately out of nowhere. I used to refill his water bowl every week or so but now I have to refill it every day. My dog is a purebred Beagle. He has also been lying down everywhere, not just sleeping but he's just not so active. He has been a lot more calm too. He is almost 8 and I've noticed that his fur has started to get a bit lighter. The brown has started to fade more and he has some grays that I've never noticed before.

Excessive drinking is a sign for many issues that could pose a danger to your beagle.

Usually links to dehydration, which in turn leads to the digestive system shutting down.

There could be a blockage as old dogs do strange things and eat even stranger things like rocks.

Take you buddy to a vet to have a check up as soon as possible.

    Also monitor eating and pooping.

I must have skimmed over the whole "used to fill the bowl every week or so" part.

You should be giving your dog fresh water every day!..every meal.

Yes, he's aging, which is normal, but the "excessive" water drinking is worrisome. Are you sure it's excessive? In my family, we have ALWAYS provided our dogs with fresh water every day.

However, if there are symptoms that concern you, then obviously see your vet. Tell him or her about everything that your dog is doing.

I think the color change could be from of aging. However, the increase in water intake could be more serious. The things that come to my mind are diabetes and kidney issues; I'm sure there may be others. I would take him to the vet to make sure.

Or the excessive drinking could be a sign of him becoming diabetic. Maybe you need to SERIOUSLY consider getting him to the vet.
