What are some good books to read?

I want to get into reading, but alas, I have no idea what a neophyte reader, such as myself, would be interested in. I love fantasy, horror, mystery and pretty much anything that requires a bit of imagination.

You have not given age and gender or education level that might give some clues. There are online resources such as "good reads" that might be of some help and more confidential. There was a time when the classics would be recommended but these time might call for lighter fare as a rule. One book I would recommend both for pleasure and mental stimulation would be Moby Dick.

Go to the library. Go to any section and take the books one by one and read the first page of it. If the first page sparks your interest then check it out. If not, put it back on the shelf. When you have about ten books, take them home and try to finish them. There's no penalty if you don't finish any particular book, even it's said to be a great classic of literature.

I'm saying this in the sense of the "give a fish, eat for a day. teach to fish , eat for a lifetime" philosophy.
