Is it illegal to use someone elses address to go to a better school?

I am moving to Lubbock this summer, and there are 3 main high schools/ districts. The house we want is in Lubbock ISD Coronado High School, which I have heard is the absolute worst. I want to attend Frendship ISD. If I was to use my aunt's or dad's (my parents are divorced) address to "prove" I lived in the district, would that be illegal?

Some school districts allow open enrollment. If Lubbock does not the school will require proof that your parents live at the listed address. This can be a utility bill with their name and that address on it. It is illegal however some schools are more strict than others. If Friendship is close to full they will check it out, but if they have lots of room you might get in.

It's illegal and I know this is an excuse, but everybody does it. They have preferences to the extent that kids in the nearest city to me can decide which school they want to go to.

Yes, which is why you need to prove residency from tax records (who has been claiming you as a dependent) when you try to enroll.
