Will encryption software of my data files protect me from the ransom malware, or will it lock them as well?

It will not completely protect you from malware. Make sure you have unencrypted backups in case if you lost your encryption keys and/or passwords as well. Additionally, you will have to change your computer usage habits to limit how much time you're actually keeping the encrypted files decrypted while also managing how long and where those passwords and keys stay on your system (usually they stay on your computer's RAM while it's on and may still remain a few moments even after powering off - even so longer if your computer's in a really cold place)

The best protection is to plug in a portable HD and make a system imag . Or full back up I make a system image with a clean computer that way if the FBI virus or other Ransome ware locks me up I can get every thing back in 20 minutes ez

It could--it just depends on the malware. It could just search for all files with specific extensions and encrypt your already encrypted files. Just make sure your stuff is backed up.
