The mug shown in the image included with the question might have been hand crafted. Search the internet using the word strings 'pottery mugs with glazed handles', 'clay coffee mugs'. or 'stoneware pottery coffee mugs' to see a variety of commercial made and handmade pottery mugs. When selecting a mug, once you decide on the shape and size you want, check the handle shape and how it feels to hold and use the mug. Pick the mug up and hold it like you will be taking a sip from the mug. Your knuckles should not contact the side of the mug, buring them, and the mug should not droop or dip forward when being held with the thumb placed on the top of the handle curve.

With the start of Spring, most areas begin their schedule of indoor and outdoor arts and crafts shows and festivals. They usually start in May and end in December; look for juried shows with higher quality work and more items available for sale. There are often potters who exhibit their wares at these gatherings.

The potter Graciela Lynt will create special order mugs, and those she shows on her Etsy page appear well crafted. The second link shows an unfired mug in the same shape as the mug from the question image, with a custom artwork design etched in the clay.
