Can I use Fables, Legends, In Celtic Mythology and make a novel?

I like Myth stories, and I saw some in Wikipedia about Legends, and Fables stories dating back to 13th century.And, i was wondering if i use those stories to write a novel or novelette from it?

    Yes, a lot of authors use various legends etc as a basis for their work. The Celtic stories are quite popular.
