Relativity theory?
Can anyone explain what the difference between special and general relativity is? it can be a shorter answer but just to the point

As the name implies, special relativity is just a special case of General Relativity. The equations for General Relativity reduce to special relativity if you ignore the fact that matter/energy produces gravity and restrict motion to uniform motion (although accelerated reference frames can be used in certain situations in special relativity).
So, the bottom line is that Special Relativity is included in General Relativity, and shouldn't be considered a separate theory.
The solutions to both special and general relativity are simply different values of the same thing - the components of something called the metric tensor.

"Relativity theory?"

Special Relativity allows you to infer what someone that was moving relative to you, would measure for time a space intervals.
General Relativity includes considerations of significant mass, and acceleration, so different positions in a gravity well, and in the history of the Universe can be included.

Special Relativity deals with Relative motion between Inertial Frames of Reference (Frames of Reference that comply with Newton's 1st Law, Constant Velocity)
General Relativity deals with both content velocity and accelerated frames of reference

Special relativity was the first theory Einstein came up with, he published it in 1905. Its about velocity, mostly, such as when you travel at near light-speeds. But its about all sorts of phenomenon. Time dilation, length-contraction, relative simultaneity, relative mass, etc., including mass-energy equivalence (E=mc²). All of this is a consequence of the assumptions that the speed of light is a constant, and that the observed laws of physics are the same from any inertial reference frame.
In 1915, Einstein published a second paper about general relativity. It is about all the same phenomenon, except instead of near light-speeds he was talking about near gravity wells, such as planets and stars and black holes, where space-time is curved.

in generic terms, Special relativity is the theory of what happens at very fast speeds, while general relativity is the theory of what happens with very dense masses

If you want to know about the nature of the speed of light, energy and mass (E=mc2) in the space time continuum, cheque out SR.
If you want to know about the nature of gravity and the space time continuum itself, cheque out GR.
Of course both are closely linked as SR is just GR under special circumstances. This is as simple as I can get it. If you're interested, there is loads of info on line. The concept is not hard to comprehend and you will be able to find out a lot without reading the raw mathematics.
