PHYSICS HOMEWORK HELP: The Doppler Effect?
1. A car drives by at 20mph, with a violinist in it playing a song. The speed of sound is 343 m/s. The violin is actually playing at 800Hz, what frequency do you hear before and after the car passes you?
2. The speed of sound in water is 1482 m/s. If question number 1 were underwater, how would the results differ?
Please show me all the formula's and steps required to get the answers. I need to solve some more questions like these!
Thank you!

1) Apparent frequency (the frequency you hear when car passes you) = (velocity of sound * frequency of violin)/(velocity of sound - velocity of car)
Therefore, Apparent frequency = (343 * 800)/(343-8.94)
= 821 Hz
2) Apparent frequency = (1482*800)/(1482-8.94)
= 804 Hz
Therefore, the apparent frequency in water would be lesser than air
I hope the answers are correct!!
PS: I converted the 20 miles/hr to m/s which is 8.94 m/s
