Same problem as any other country. Fear. The idea that another country could and would attack us because we don't agree with their religion is enough incentive for anyone to take the offensive. It may not be the best course of action, but history has demonstrated the lengths to which religious extremists are willing to go. No one likes war, but no one likes crazy either. I don't care what anyone believes as long as that belief doesn't inspire them to kill me or my loved ones.

Ah yes, just like:

Jordan, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Bahrain, Egypt, Pakistan, Turkey etc etc etc. All Muslim countries. All allied and all never been to war with the US.
