Determine the empirical formula of the compound??

A compound was analyzed and was found to contain the following percentages of the elements by mass: lithium, 46.46%; oxygen, 53.54%. Determine the empirical formula of the compound.

    here , we can use the percentage as a mass.

    first calculate the mol for every element :

    mol = mass/molar mass

    mol Li = 46.46/6.94 = 6.69 mol

    mol O = 53.54/15.99 = 3.34 mol

    second we calculate mol ratio (dividing all mols by the smallest mol value)

    Li : 6.69/3.34 = ~ 2 , O : 3.34/3,34 = 1

    Li2O1

    Empirical formula : Li2O
