I am in a baseball fantasy league for the 1st time. I've been playing fantasy football for years but never baseball. Any legitimate advice?
Thanks GL. It is on mlb.com

League scoring, size,& host websites vastly vary so much it's tough to give advice with no further info.
I personally like lots of pitchers,& a low number of high quality hitters.Once my hitting starting lineup is complete I switch my draft screen to ALL PITCHERS.Then mostly look for high K SPs & closers.I will however take 2 SP aces in the 1st 10 rounds along with 8 hitters; No closers in the 1st 10 rounds.
If you are playing at MLB.com you do NOT pick ANY pitchers. You pick complete pitching staffs.Which then I suggest drafting 3 to 4 pitching staffs.

Also,I like1,or 2 speedsters on offense.Like, Billy Hamilton,Dee Gordon,Ben Revere,or Leonys Martin. All my other hitters need to be good power hitters.I think Chris Carter,Prince Fielder,George Springer,Dickerson,Brandon Moss,& Chris Davis are great mid round targets for power. If you need a power hitter for 2B,or SS after round 10 I love Baez (CHIC-2B/SS)..You need to be stronger in at least a small majority of your leagues categories than your opponents to be successful;Unless you are in a POINTS league.Which is a horse of a different color.I ALWAYS,in every fantasy sport PRINT the leagues top 250 players before live drafts, break the players into rounds (number of teams in league),then HI-LITE players I like in each round for cheat sheets.
BTW-Hitters play nearly every game,so they do not need back ups.Still,I guarantee everyone in your league will draft back up hitters. That is how you become stronger than them in the pitching categories.More SPs & RPs = more saves, wins,& strikeouts.A guy can have 5 backup hitters,& still not be as productive as a team with no backup hitters;Because it's all about production. The 5 backups are probably scrubs that may play once a week,& then they would probably just hurt his batting average.I will occasionally have 1 backup hitter if he is a speedster,or good power hitter. His position on the field does not matter.Also,3 RP (closers) usually makes you strong in SAVES.But,if you want to be real strong in saves,I see no problem with taking 4 RPs..Still,if you take highly injury prone hitters like Tulowitski,Carlos Gonzalez,Matt Kemp,Yadier Molina, etc. you may need backups for their positions.
