I have a few questions about parakeets?

I want to buy a bird, and i've decided on a parakeet.

First off, should I buy two parakeets instead of one? Are they better off with a friend?

Second, how big should the cage be? How far apart should the bars be from each other?

Thanks.

I have two a male and a female people say if you buy two then they bond with themselves instead of you that is totally wrong my male is like crazy after me though my female is a bit cranky.Well it depends if your on work or college for most of the day it's obvious two or it'll get lonely if not and you have a lot of time one is preferred but it's really your choice. The cage should be a good 18+18+18 a vision cage is pretty good but its mostly plastic so can break easily. The bar spacing should be 1/2 inch or less. These are basic concepts that every parakeet owner should know though these are not all of them their are a lot of things an owner should know before getting a bird.

I've had parakeets all my life. They are great birds. They live for about 6 years. I have 2 right now, most of the parakeets Ive had didn't want to be held so if u r looking for a bird to play with go with a different breed. :)
