M4 Assault Rifle updated?
I just looked up the M4A1 Assault Rifle at a local shooting range, but what I found was M4A3 Assault Rifle. Is the M4A1 outdated now?

Are you confusing true selective fire M4 Assault Rifles with semi-auto Modern Sporting Rifles that the vendor has chosen to name similar to the military designation? The reason I ask is, while it is possible that they can rent them, they can't be purchased by civilians.
To answer your question, the M4A1 is still the standard issue carbine. There are enhancement programs and newer models, but I don't think the military has actually ever designated the M4A3. The only similar carbine that I know of is the Bushmaster M4A3, which is most definitely NOT an assault rifle and never issued to the military.
