Ok this question is for genealogists.?

I'm researching something on one of my grandparents and she made bullets back during WW2. Does anyone know what agency handled that back then? Like would it be Army? or a contractor?

So if this is the US, you need to look in the 1940 census and see where she lived then look at the history of that area and what munitions factories were in operation then, it would have been a privately owned business and very possibly making other goods prior to the war, or could have previously been making munitions for the services before, the local directories could give you an address, the local history group could help with more information

This is a clip about one in Scotland from the Yorkshire Hertiage group UK but gives you information http://www.yorkshirefilmarchive.com/film/munitions... it was a very dangerous job

IF this was in the US the company would have had a contract with the Military Department. Most City Country Directories during the World Wars did not provide the name of a company, but might have listed Manufacturing as an occupation. The phrase "loose lips sink ships" was taken seriously and anything connected with the war was not usually made public.

Source(s): Parents worked in plants during World War II.

    Contractor, as CBR said.

If you live where she did then, you could look up old city directories and/or old telephone directories in the library. Her entry for 1944 might give her employer. The munitions plant would have a listing, probably, and if there was only one in the area, that would be it.

She would have worked at a munitions factory, run by whoever owned it. There were a lot, dotted all over the US. The army wasn't in the business of making bullets, just using them. If you know what state she lived, you might be able to narrow down which one she worked in

OK thank you for your help. Also, did Raytheon make bullets back then?
