As a Manager in a Company that accept Year 10 work experience students I will tell you this.

Because of the age of Year 10 students employers taking them in for work experience are very limited in what they can legally allow them to do. For example, if you do your WE with a manufacturing company you can work in the office but will not be allowed on the production floor. In retail you will not be insured to handle cash or do any lifting. In fact, most of the time you will be watching the professionals working but not actually doing very much yourself.

You will find WE an eye opener. The work day is much longer than the school day and you will be required to be there for the full day, every working day, for the duration of your WE. The daily routines are more vigorous. The pace is much, much faster than at school, and you will be expected to keep up. You will be there to learn about the working world, not have a few days off school.

Year 10 work experience doesn't count as work experience when you look for a permanent job. You won't have been there long enough to gain any worthwhile experience. What Year 10 WE does do is give you an idea of how different work is to school, and whether the type of work you choose for WE is the type of work you go on to do as a career. It's an important learning curve for you so make the most of it. As far as putting it on your CV. don't it won't count.

It's very important. You practically can't get a job where I live if you don't have any. Even if it's something as simple as answering phones.
