Valerian Root to help with social anxiety , is there a nasty withdrawal?

I'm not looking to take vitamins or pop pills for life. I know I have issues. I just have a hard time over coming them, making progress with my acute social anxiety ties my insides up into knots. I can't quite explain how I feel when I have acute anxiety but it hinders me in many ways. More importantly I don't think medication is a cure to my anxiety. I think I have to figure out what triggers it, and solve that through psychology. At the same time I feel that it's very difficult to target the problem when my body is under severe stress and I feel inable to gather the energy and motivation to step out of my comfort zone , explore new possibilities to solve the problem.

I'd like to try valerian root for say college and work , but at the same time I don't want to take something that I develop a tolerance for and when I get off it, will give me a serious withdrawal.

Personally I like St Johns Wort for depression and anxiety. But recently I read about Lithium. The prescription stuff is far too strong and I don't need it (neither do you). But the over the counter stuff is mildly effective for me. I like it. It's a naturally occurring mineral that many of us are short on.

Saint John's Worth might work much better. Also it would be a good idea NOT to try SAME, because the way you describe your states, it might make you feel manic. Yes, Saint John's Wort. Make sure it is standardized, that it says standardized on the bottle. Drink Saint John's Wort tea all day long, instead of soda. Why I do not trust valerian - people report falling asleep easily and calming down when using valerian, but if they have a nightmare, they cannot wake up! It keeps them sleeping through nightmares and glooms, and the natural reaction of the body should be to wake up! On the other hand, this reaction to valerian might be only the reaction of some people. Vitamin B1 is also a good anti-anxiety supplement. It is good if you use name brands like GNC or Vitamin shoppe to buy herbs and vitamins. Valerian acts the best when it's a liquid solution. Saint John's wort makes certain medications not work.

Recognizing the symptoms of anxiety is the first step to managing your anxiety and help your doctor determine if you may have some form of an anxiety disorder. Read here https://tr.im/AnxietyTreatment

There are groups of people that are specifically more prone to issues with anxiety, such as women, individuals who experience traumatic events, individuals who experience extreme stress or mental health disorders, or individuals with a history of alcohol and drug abuse.

any "supplement" can cause addiction, whether you realize it or not. the point of ANY medication or supplement should be to taper off of it...to show your body how to attain it on its own, so that you no longer NEED it.

watch "Limitless" for an ideal example (man i wish those pills existed...)
