Two days ago my mum and I woke up to someone smashing our door... this woman heard our cat be hit by a car... all I saw of him was a towel, his tail and blood... at the vets I saw his jaw... broken and blood all over his mouth and completely red eyes... he died right near our house.. and I can see the blood on the road... and I keep imagining his body lying in the road as some car speeds off... and I keep picturing these in my head and I don't know how cope

Well, instead of thinking about death, just remember that you gave it the best life possible. All living things must die.... And (OK, I don't want to be rude, but) one day you will die too. It's a fact. Everyone you know will die. And the sun will explode in the future. It could also help if you stop thinking about it so much. Think about the happy things in your life. And (this depends) if you fall in love whereas all you think about is a person, after some time when someone mentions your cat you won't have nightmares. I'm not saying tot fall in love though....

While that was a horrible thing to see, at least you have closure knowing what happened to him. Many people have cats killed by their wandering into the road and never know what happened to them. When you do get another cat (when the time is right) keep him/her indoors so that he/she doesn't meet the same fate. Roads are for cars, and not for cats. It's not cruel to keep a cat indoors, especially when you live so close to a road.

Good! Maybe next time you get a cat this image will be in your mind and you'll NEVER let another cat free roam! This cat would still be alive had you kept it indoors. I have an EIGHTEEN year old cat!

This might sound insensitive, but actually getting yourself another cat will probably help you to get over it quicker.

it takes time to get over. remember the times it was alive and happy. next time, keep your cat indoors all the time and it wont happen again.
