Another Harry Potter question?

In Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Muggleborn students were getting attacked.

What I want to know is why didn't Dumbledore try and prevent more Muggleborn students from getting attacked when Colin Creevey was petrified? He could've just set up security measures sooner instead of later, like asking the staff to postpone the quidditch and having a teacher to accompany the students to each class, and such, right after Colin Creevey had been attacked.

What do you think?

He probably didn't want to react right away because he was trying to find another way around it. The last thing he wanted to do was cancel everything that the students enjoyed because- being Dumbledore- he loved and enjoyed them almost as much as all the students. My guess is that he was trying to figure out the most logical decision while keeping Hogwarts' spirits uplifted rather than devastating all of the students with no activities AND the attacks.

It would have ruined the plot, don't you think?
