Why do girls/women post so many pictures asking strangers if they're pretty?

Update:

It's not the pictures that confuse me as the asking strangers if you're pretty? Do our opinions mean so much? Do you not feel pretty? Do you just need confirmation? Is it narcissism? I don't understand.

    They want to get attention and validation and/or they are insecure.
