Poll: Should the Mets retire Numbers 8. 17, and 31?
The Mets should retire number 8 for Gary Carter, 17 for Keith Hernandez and 31 for Mike Piazza, because Gary Carter is a Hall of Famer and was a key player for the 1986 World Championship team, Keith Hernandez was the Captain and team leader for that '86 team and Mike Piazza was one of the greatest hitters to wear a Mets uniform and was the key player for the 2000 NL Championship team and is expected to be elected into the Baseball Hall of Fame within the next two years, which is why 8, 17, and 31 should be retired

The only one I could plead for is Piazza. I knew he was good but never really saw much of him when he played for the Dodgers and their west coast starting times. It was until he played for the Mets that I got to enjoy seeing him play and especially hitting the heck out of Roidger Clemens. I didn't get to see much of either Hernandez or Carter.

I get where you're coming from as a Mets fan but all three of these guys are known as much, or more, for their roles on other teams. Carter with the Expos. Piazza with the Dodgers. Hernandez with the Cardinals. To me you should be a guy like Seaver to have your number retired.

Yes. They could also retire 8 for Yogi Berra (some teams retire one number for 2 players, and Yogi was a player, coach, and manager for the mets), also number 16 for Dock Gooden, 18 for Darryl Strawberry, and 30 for Nolan Ryan.

Carter was a drug addict. Screw him.
