I believe one of the bands should be approx 1.2kb because that is the length of the control region. But I don't know which one and I don't know why there is a second

Usually these gels are run with a DNA "ladder' in one of the lanes - with a series of bands that have known molecular weights. That way you can look across the gel, compare your band to one in the ladder, and find the weight that way. Is that what lane M is?
If you know what brand you used for the marker, you should be able to look it up online pretty easily. I don't think the smaller, further along band, is worth worrying about too much. it's much more faint than the main one. Maybe that's the primers.
