Why do people want to be sick so badly?

Mental disorders and other things. Seems everyone wants to run to the doctor and be able to say "Look at me" I have been diagnosed with...........

Because they want people to feel bad for them, or they want some random thing to cover their mistakes I honestly don't believe in any of them everyone is different. Teenagers especially love doing this "I have ocd, depression." You know I honestly don't believe it's real.

It is big business and medication is not always a permanent solution.

They toss a diagnosis around like it is set in concrete when it is actually their opinion based on what you or others have told them.

I have educated my shrink about a variety of things. He diagnosed me with PTSD due to nightmares and anxiety . So I asked if nightmares might cause PTSD. I had them one after the other after the other and it got so bad I would dread going to bed and post in my sleep on Facebook. So I found a link to levothyroxine that said it may cause nightmares. I have to take it as I have no thyroid and had cancer so no doctor will give me a natural supplement because they say it doesn't provide a consistent marker for thryoid cancer. Never mind that I can't take this drug without a lot of physical symptoms. Anyway, never trust these people but if your friends or family tell you that you need to be on medication, believe them and take your meds. Most crazy people refuse to take their medication. You don't want to be that kind of crazy.

    Hmmm..

I do agree that there's overdiagnosis going on (profit for pharmaceutical sales etc) and people are actually being sold and advertised to things like anti depressants (not here but I saw one of them in the US)

But I also think people are more aware and want to be careful that their mental health is in check, just like you get a physical check regularly, you make sure you're doing okay mentally.

And I also think that there are genuine people out there that really need the help, no I don't think, I know. Society is more aware, people can get help that wasn't available before, there's more understanding to what depression and anxiety disorders are than before so people dare to seek help more than they used to.

Some people say that everyone is autistic "nowadays" (I know its a developmental disorder, not a mental one), everyone is depressed, everyone is this and that.

But it isn't necessarily more people, the people are just getting proper treatment today that they didn't use to (most of the time, I know there's malpractice with these doctors too) Before they were labelled eccentric, lazy, with the blues, crazy or whatever it was called, but it was more than that.

Society of today also plays a factor in our depression and anxiety, but it doesn't make the sickness of it any less valid, it's just one of the triggers to start the development, it's like a knife against skin, doesn't matter where the knife comes from, as long as it hurts you and might hurt you deeply and long lastingly along with other knifes and other tools of making a sore skin, you still end up very wounded and in need of help. Some people aren't built up strong enough to deal with these knifes, some are more resilient than others.

That's why it's essential to have help out there.

We have to be careful not to paint a negative picture of seeking help, we can be honest about what treatments are being used and if they are always necessary in the way they are done, but just going out to see if you can get help with your issues is a positive thing, it's our survival instinct. If we shame that down, people might not get help, they get sicker, and who knows what else.

I certainly didn't want to have severe anxiety.

I don't know why people would do that and don't know anybody who does that type of thing
