I have an active judgement for over 100k but my lawyer is retiring and is done with it. Now what?

The judgement is still good until August of 16 and he has said he will refuel it for me at that time if I contact him. The payments were being made through wage garnishment and he had some difficulty tracking the defendant down. The defendant tends to relocate to a reservation as they are Native American. Where do i take this case? A larger firm? I was sent the documents but am unsure of how to proceed.

Sounds like you going to need to trade it off to another lawyer but you may have to pay the next lawyer more money to get better results just maybe. Possibly the closer the lawyer is to handling your case to wherever the defendant lives will be possibly easier for you to find out what he is up to. But remember as I believe it may be as a 25 percent garnishment cut of a person's income taken like that can in some cases can create a severe hardship on that individual especially if he has a low income and owes a lot of other bills and especially if it is over a long period of time and if he doesn't have a 2nd job to help back himself up or if you have somebody else helping out with expenses. Yes he does owe that horrendous amount of debt but how long can he afford to survive a garnishment when he's paying on it continuously? A garnishment like that can go into eternity with an amount like that unless he was to acquire a substantial large piece of property like in an inheritance or the like . Maybe if you contacted him and decided to take only 12 to15 percent of his wages instead of 25 percent he might more willing and much more easier to come to an agreement with you about this mountain of debt. Don't know what he could have charged with such a big amount as that. Sounds like a doctor bill, a house, or bunch of business expenses that came to be an amount like that. Sometimes debt can cause a snowball effect in a person's life when it goes unpaid and especially as more and more time goes by with all the interest and penalties that can continue over time. Best thing if was just able to call/write you or you call/write him and work out a reasonable amount of money to pay you back per month based on his living expenses and a little extra for emergencies that you could be willing to accept at least you could continue to receive a steady payback for your huge loss of some kind of amount and an amount that his conscious is willing to accept. He obviously is probably not a rich man by no means because if had been he would have taken your lower amount as your settlement payoff right then and there. I imagine you will be much more relieved when you again can be receiving payments from him again so that your conscious can be much more relieved that something is in fact coming back your way so you can sleep probably much better at night.
