Is it common for USPS to just hold onto packages for a few days?

I ordered something on Amazon about a week back, and the expected delivery date was Monday. The package arrived at the carrier facility in Salt Lake on Friday and has just been sitting there ever since (at least according to Amazon). Normally, packages leave the Salt Lake carrier facility and then arrive at my local post office the day before being delivered to my address, but like I said, it's just been sitting at the Salt Lake facility since Friday.

Update:

The USPS website, on the other hand, says the package left the shipping partner facility in Hebron, KY on Friday, but doesn't say anything about it arriving anywhere.

No, but Amazon tracking ends when the package is turned over to the post office
